wants his , known as the PL, to contest the Brazilian Senate presidency in 2027 rather than support , even without assurances of victory, according to Brazil's CNN Brasil.

Political analyst Gustavo Uribe reports that the former president reaffirmed that position in a post-election conversation involving Michelle Bolsonaro, Carlos Bolsonaro and PL president . Uribe also mentions support for an amnesty as part of the political discussions.

This is a contest for leadership of the Senate, not for a seat in it. Alcolumbre, a senator representing the northern state of Amapá, heads the chamber. Analyst Pedro Venceslau describes him as the favorite and identifies and Tereza Cristina as possible opposition names, without presenting either as a confirmed candidate.

Venceslau explains why the office matters to Bolsonaro's allies: the Senate president has a gatekeeping role over requests to impeach justices of the Supreme Federal Court. Control of the chamber's agenda therefore gives the leadership contest significance beyond committee assignments and parliamentary posts.

The report also examines the PL's position in the Chamber of Deputies, Brazil's lower house. Venceslau says support for its president, , from the Workers' Party, known as the PT, and the loose bloc of parties called the Centrão is leaving the PL increasingly isolated in negotiations. Uribe says the PT does not want an agreement with the PL, while Venceslau argues that joining negotiations late could leave Bolsonaro's party with less desirable posts.

Presenter Tainá Falcão points to divisions within the opposition itself, including Ciro Nogueira's support for Alcolumbre. She argues that earlier promises of political reconciliation remain unfulfilled, complicating attempts to rebuild an agreement with Bolsonaro's allies.
