Brazilian authorities are trying to establish who helped Flávio Bolsonaro leave the country and whether the Argentine and US governments played a role, according to Brazil's CNN Brasil. Political analyst Jussara Soares says the circumstances of his departure remain incomplete, with conflicting information complicating efforts to reconstruct the journey.
Bolsonaro, a senator for Rio de Janeiro and son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, reached Miami through a route that presenter Márcio Gomes describes as passing through Argentina and Ecuador. The new report focuses less on his arrival than on the unanswered questions before it.
Gomes makes an important legal distinction: Bolsonaro was not considered a fugitive because there was no arrest warrant against him. The presenter nevertheless says the senator had failed to comply with an order to surrender his passport. An on-screen caption also attributes to Brazil's Federal Police the statement that Bolsonaro did not pass through immigration control.
Speaking from Brasília, Soares says authorities are examining what involvement, if any, the governments of Argentine President Javier Milei and US President Donald Trump had in the departure. The segment does not establish that either government assisted him.
Airport footage of aircraft and vans accompanies the discussion, but Soares identifies a more basic gap: there was still no confirmation of where Bolsonaro had stayed on Tuesday before crossing out of Brazil.
She also cites Bolsonaro ally Paulo Figueiredo as acknowledging the use of false information to throw people off the trail. That makes caution essential to reconstructing the route, she says: investigators need to avoid mistaking deliberate misdirection for evidence.
Brazilian senator for Rio de Janeiro since 2019 and a member of the Liberal Party. He is a son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
