Brazilian Federal Police have canceled Flávio Bolsonaro's ordinary and diplomatic passports after a deadline to surrender them expired, Brazil's CNN Brasil reports. The announcement interrupts its political broadcast as reporters describe unsuccessful attempts by the senator's lawyers and allies to reach him.
Bolsonaro, a senator for Rio de Janeiro and a Liberal Party politician, is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. His reported departure following his election defeat has already raised questions about the opposition's next steps. This broadcast adds a more immediate issue: what police can do when a court's passport-surrender order has not been fulfilled.
At about eight minutes, presenter Gustavo Uribe announces the cancellations. Security analyst Elijonas Maia says police will notify Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the failure to comply with his order. Maia also describes international alerts through Interpol and restrictions that could flag the canceled documents at airports. The report does not announce an arrest.
The upload is titled "ALIADOS DIZEM QUE FLAVIO FOI PARA OS EUA COM A FAMILIA | BASTIDORES CNN", meaning "Allies say Flavio went to the US with his family." But the broadcast's early reporting centers on uncertainty over his location. Political analyst Teo Cury says his legal team and allies have been unable to contact him since the morning.
Correspondent Luciana Taddeo later reports from Buenos Aires that Javier Milei's government denies having any record of Bolsonaro entering Argentina or requesting asylum there. The studio also raises a separate question about his Italian passport, without resolving whether the Brazilian cancellations would affect his ability to travel on that document.
The program then broadens to another post-election legal development. It reports that Supreme Court Justice Flávio Dino has ordered Federal Police to investigate suspected foreign interference and financing in Brazil's election. The discussion includes allegations involving technology platforms and algorithm manipulation; these are presented as matters for investigation, not established findings.
In its later sections, the broadcast turns to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's preparations for another government. Reporters discuss possible cabinet appointments, business demands over tax-reform implementation and the need to negotiate with centrist congressional parties. It closes this portion with preparations at the presidential residence for Lula's birthday gathering.
