Young men are central to Harry Enten's explanation of the Democratic midterm victories. In CNN's post-election compilation, he points to exit-poll comparisons showing a sharp move away from the Republican advantage among these voters in the presidential election.
Using New York Times voter demographics, Enten describes a 39-point nationwide swing among men aged 18 to 29, comparing their presidential choice in 2024 with their House vote in 2026. He then turns to Texas, where he says an even larger shift helped James Talarico win his Senate race.
These are comparisons between different elections and offices, rather than a survey following the same individuals. They nevertheless supply a demographic explanation alongside the district-by-district results: "Young men helped propel them in both the House and in the Senate," Enten tells Anderson Cooper.
The compilation ranges beyond younger voters. Enten says every state shifted toward Democrats when comparing the national House results with the previous presidential election. With Erin Burnett, he examines Republican redistricting efforts that failed to produce the intended advantage; with Kaitlan Collins, he looks at turnout and first-time voters.
The roundup drew about 1.6 million views since yesterday. Its opening also considers Democrats' prospects for the next presidential election through prediction-market odds, not a settled forecast. Later segments retain election-count uncertainty: Enten favors Scott Colom in Mississippi while discussing votes still outstanding, and examines close House contests with Cooper.
