Heartbroken father speaks out about losing daughter in Palm Beach County jet crash
Allan Filgueiras has listened repeatedly to his daughter's final radio transmission, searching for a clue. Speaking at a press conference in Coral Gables, he also spoke of the courage he heard in her voice.
"She made me so proud. She, she showed me what it is to be a hero," he said.
His daughter, co-pilot Natalia Filgueiras, was among nine people killed when a Learjet crashed into a Palm Beach County neighborhood. CBS Miami reporter Ted Scouten's report brings her father's account into coverage of the crash, focusing on his pride and his wish that he could have been beside her during her final moments.
The report reached nearly 200,000 views within 11 hours, far beyond the channel's usual audience for a short upload. Its focus is the family rather than an explanation of what caused the crash.
Scouten reports that debris found several miles away indicates the aircraft was breaking apart before impact. The family's attorney, Stuart Grossman, says they are not filing a lawsuit yet and will wait for the investigation to run its course.
