The first warning comes from the hiker's brother: there's a snake underneath you. The camera points into a crevice, where two snakes are coiled together beneath the rocks the hiker has been walking and jumping on.

Brighter Paws' "We Joked About Snakes Until We Looked Down" had reached roughly 727,000 views in 13 hours, far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for a Short. The footage is credited on screen to @disney_daad; this is a hike shared by the channel, not presented as its own outing.

The joke had lasted much of the climb. Looking out over the mountain scenery, the narrator explains that they have been talking about snakes along the way. Looking down changes the conversation.

"So if somebody could let me know what kind of snakes these are, that would be great," the hiker says. Viewers take up the identification question, with several suggesting copperheads and others offering different answers. Those comments don't establish the species. Another running joke concerns the hiker's commitment to keeping the camera going.

The comment section is already more than fifty times as busy as the channel's usual first day. But the clip's most unsettling detail comes after that first discovery: as the hiker searches for somewhere to step down, more snakes appear in the surrounding crevices and vegetation.

"It is time to leave these freaking mountains right now," the narrator concludes.
