"The cops came to the party for a noise violation," Dan Ives tells Bloomberg's anchors. It's his answer to a serious question: have Democratic midterm gains brought the AI investment boom to an end?
The Yorkville Ives & Co. analyst says no. In an interview that drew about 25,000 views in ten hours, far above Bloomberg Podcasts' usual start, he argues that investors are mistaking longer construction and spending timelines for a collapse in demand.
Bloomberg describes Thursday's technology-stock plunge as the sector's steepest since 2020. Against that backdrop, the anchors press Ives on how delays to data-center infrastructure could spread through the companies supplying the AI buildout. His distinction is straightforward: projects taking longer to happen are not the same as projects being canceled. He disputes reports of sweeping cuts and calls the sell-off overdone.
Asked to revisit his familiar party metaphor, he sticks with it: "This party's not ending because of the blue tidal wave."
That makes this a different turn from the earnings and spending questions we examined as we reported here: Ives is defending the investment cycle, rather than denying that its timetable can change.
The conversation also reaches Elon Musk's businesses in Texas. Ives says Musk will need to negotiate with regulators, but rejects the idea that SpaceX's expansion has fundamentally stopped.
