Big Nibbles takes on Calippo Shots, a 'Food That No Longer Exists'

The little frozen sorbet balls have viewers comparing them to Dippin' Dots and remembering how fast a warm tub turned to sludge.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 586,346 views a day, 8.2 times a normal first day on this channel (71,284).

After a week of gravy, Big Nibbles went to the freezer. His newest Short, "Food That No Longer Exists | Calippo Shots," takes on the bite-sized frozen pellets that once came in a tub under the Calippo name, the brand better known for its push-up ice lollies in a tube.

The Short passed half a million views in its first 21 hours. A Big Nibbles Short usually does a fraction of that on its first day. The comment section moved even faster, roughly six times busier than usual.

Much of that talk is memory. Many viewers write that Calippo Shots were a childhood treat, some from as far as Sweden, and several only learned from the title that they had gone. One remembers buying them at the corner shop with a bottle of cola and sitting outside with friends. Others are less sentimental: a popular comment recalls the balls sticking together the moment they warmed up.

The most liked comment places them as a sorbet cousin of Dippin' Dots. That comparison also explains the other running theme: a lot of people suggest that liquid nitrogen would have made the job easier, and one offers a parchment-paper trick for the next attempt.

It is a lighter detour for a channel that calls itself "The Worlds Most Unhinged Food Creator." The same week brought "Turning Gravy into Gas" and two stops in the "Death Row Meals Around the World" series.

  • These things NEVER WORKED RIGHT, the second they warmed up a little bit, they all glued to each other and made a sludge in the tub
