A wild Vishy appears: Nemo meets Viswanathan Anand in the last round
The tournament short passed 200,000 views in about a day and a half, in a week that also took her to a Paris lobster dinner and out of chess retirement.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Chess doesn't get harder than this 🥶
Who do you hope to face in the final round of a tournament? Something easy, ideally. Nemo, the Toronto-based woman grandmaster Qiyu Zhou, got Viswanathan Anand instead, and "Chess doesn't get harder than this 🥶" became her week's most watched upload.
The comment section has the joke ready. Viewers keep calling Anand a final boss, a few hear boss music as she sits down, and one of the most liked notes asks whether the last game of any tournament is always against the toughest player in the room. Another points out that the next opponent on the schedule was Magnus Carlsen. Anand, five times world champion and the man who brought India into the top tier of the game, is the kind of draw that makes a short like this work on its own.
It was one of ten uploads, and the week wandered well beyond the board. There was a first whole lobster in Paris, the start of spooky season, and a short that simply says yes, she is Canadian. Then, on Monday, came "I came out of chess retirement!! 🥇", which opened at a quick clip in its first hours, with a gold medal in the title.
The channel as a whole ran well above its usual daily views and added about 4,000 subscribers over the seven days. Among the streamer channels close to her size, only Nmplol and fuslie gathered more views this week, and several others, QTCinderella and 2ndJerma among them, were running quieter than usual.
