A metal bar lying in a middle lane of Queensland's M1 punctured the tires of at least 20 cars, Australian broadcaster 7NEWS Australia reports.

The nighttime footage shows the bar on the asphalt and a line of stranded vehicles along the shoulder at Nerang, in the Gold Coast area south of Brisbane. Emergency flashers blink as other traffic continues past the stopped cars. The report says vehicle after vehicle was forced to pull over after driving over the debris.

Part of the motorway was closed for an hour while police removed the bar, according to the report.
