Thieves steal $20,000 of gourmet meat
Premium Wagyu cuts were among A$20,000 worth of gourmet meat stolen from Basq steakhouse in Essendon Fields, Melbourne, according to Australian broadcaster 7NEWS Australia.
The report includes security footage showing three unidentified people breaking the lock on an outdoor cool room with bolt cutters. They open the container, enter and emerge carrying large boxes, taking the meat to a getaway vehicle, the newsreader says.
The steakhouse owners described themselves as devastated by the loss, according to the report. In a social media response recounted by the newsreader, they called the theft disappointing but not surprising.
