'I Don't Have Sympathy For Them, I Don't Care' | Labour MP On Arresting Palestine Action Activists
Does holding a sign make someone a terrorist? Shehab Khan puts that question to Labour MP Mike Tapp in a Zeteo UK interview about the arrest of a 94-year-old human rights lawyer outside Labour's conference in Liverpool.
Tapp defends the ban on Palestine Action and argues that supporting a proscribed organization on a placard warrants arrest. He distinguishes that offense from planning an attack, rather than directly applying the label Khan asks about.
"It's an offence, and therefore if you commit an offence, then you should absolutely be arrested for that," Tapp says. He maintains that people remain free to protest for Palestine, but not to display support for the banned group.
The Short drew nearly six times Zeteo's usual first-day comments, while its views were ordinary for the channel. Among the substantive responses, viewers question whether displaying words on a sign should be criminalized and challenge the proscription itself.
Tapp also calls deliberately getting arrested to make a point a waste of police time. That is not a withdrawal of his support for the arrest: he continues to defend enforcement while criticizing the protest tactic.
