Walt still has his job. Benny Johnson's follow-up to the grocery-aisle prank footage includes a customer-service message from Red Baron confirming that the worker has not been fired, followed by a public post backing him.
That is the new development after Johnson's search for the worker, as we reported here. The original footage showed Walt explaining what the interruption cost him: he was working late, facing an early start and missing time with his children. "So this is not a joke to me," he said.
Johnson now shows a fundraiser with more than $360,000 raised at that point in the video. He also reviews the company's response, including its playful announcement that employee-of-the-month nominations were closed.
That response is the focus of many prominent comments. Viewers discuss the decision to stand behind Walt and the employment consequences they had feared. The follow-up drew more than five times Johnson's usual first-day comments, although its views were not unusual for the channel.
Near the end, Johnson reads an update from the fundraiser's organizer: Walt is overwhelmed by the support and wants to maintain his privacy. After the public search and the flood of attention, that is his request.
