Royal Supremacy went clear. By the closing stages of the Melbourne Cup, the leader had given the chasing field an enormous gap to close. Then Point of Law came through, turning a runaway into a catch.

Wide World of Sports' full race replay drew about 194,000 views in under a day, nearly a hundred times the channel's usual first-day audience for regular videos. Its short clip of the winner also attracted an unusually large audience, alongside separate uploads of the presentation and Brown's comeback story.

The replay makes the changing shape of the race easy to follow. Royal Supremacy stretches far ahead down the back, but begins to tire approaching the home turn. Point of Law surges past to win, with Zahrann and Juja Kibo completing the placings. All three were trained by Ciaron Maher.

The comments keep returning to the horse that made everyone chase. Viewers discuss Royal Supremacy's bold effort and fading lead, while others pick out Brown's route through the field and Point of Law's finishing acceleration.

After the finish, the broadcast stays with the celebrations and an interview conducted on horseback. Brown's first response is wonderfully plain: "Yeah, please don't wake me up."

He is more specific about his mount: "His turn of foot was enormous. He's going to be a superstar horse, this." Later, Maher's mother joins the trainer's interview, leaving the replay with a family reaction as well as the result.

It's about how a jockey knows and understands how to read the horse. When to pull back then let the horse go. They are majestic animals. I don't really care about the punters or who wants to pat themselves on the back. It's about the horse and the jockey🙌
