"Could I be the female Bruce Lee? I think that's been a driving force in my life," says Rayna Vallandingham. Her Women's Health gym visit gives that ambition a practical shape: heavy-bag combinations, head kicks and a bo staff spinning through her hands.
The actor and martial artist, who plays Juli in Street Fighter, drew about 38,000 views in nine hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for regular videos. The comments were also busier than a typical first day, with viewers calling for more action roles and comparing her skills to the martial arts movie stars of the '80s and '90s.
Vallandingham says she began martial arts at two and earned her black belt at six. But knowing how to strike isn't quite the same as knowing how to make a strike read on camera. During the workout, she explains the visual differences between real fight punches and stunt choreography, then works the bag with wrist weights.
There's repetition behind the flourishes, too. Her pyramid kicks build from a single rep to five and descend again, while the bo staff section includes basic strike sequences before a butterfly spin. "Technique is the most important. Remember that," she says.
Her declaration that she's not naturally flexible has prompted its own running joke: viewers point to the full split accompanying that modest assessment. The workout eventually gives way to a gym-bag tour, where her black belt shares space with chrome nunchaku, hand wraps and a recovery peanut.
