Callina Liang trained for Chun-Li on hip thrusts and 12 eggs a day

Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 0:12Liang says she only began strength training after being cast as Chun-Li.
- 1:05Her rule: listen to your body, because rest matters as much as training.
- 1:30Barbell hip thrusts, with her sets and reps; she says she lifts double her body weight.
- 2:15Plate hip abductions, which she says help her kicks and balance in fight scenes.
- 3:07Sumo deadlifts, then cable step-ups and squats, plus her case for stretching and mobility.
- 4:15Her filming diet included up to 12 eggs a day; a gym bag check follows at 04:39.
Callina Liang came to the barbell late. "I actually started strength training when I got cast in Street Fighter," she says at the start of her Women's Health session, so this is a workout learned for a job, not a lifelong habit. Before Chun-Li, she was best known for Steven Soderbergh's ghost story Presence.
The job was mostly legs. "For Chun-Li, like, all I had to do was, like, train my legs," she explains, which suits a character defined by her kicks. The routine follows: barbell hip thrusts, where she says she can now lift double her body weight, then plate hip abductions that she credits with steadier balance and kicks in fight scenes, sumo deadlifts, cable step-ups and squats. The video's description adds that the work was so effective her stunt double had to wear a butt pad.
The lifting sat beside two hours of stunt training every day with her co-stars. Still, the message is not to grind through everything. She talks about listening to her body and building strength that lasts as she gets older. "Rest is just as important as working out," she says.
Then comes the menu. "During filming, I did eat 12 eggs a day, yes," Liang admits, before the session ends with a look inside her gym bag: resistance bands, an ab strap, sunglasses and a carb snack, because, as she puts it, you need carbs for a good workout.
The feature continues the Strong Like series that brought Jade Cargill and Mýa to the channel's gym in recent weeks, but this one moved much faster, passing 50,000 views in 13 hours. The comments arrived about four times quicker than usual. Many come from people who have seen the film and talk about her Chun-Li, while at least one viewer is already adding cable step-ups to their own leg day.
