Jack Smith Had The PERFECT Response For This GOP Senator
A regular-length clip on TYT Investigates, the hearings-and-briefings clips channel tied to The Young Turks, usually ends its first day with around five thousand views. The one titled "Jack Smith Had The PERFECT Response For This GOP Senator" passed 63,000 in its first seven hours.
The senator of the title is John Cornyn of Texas, a former Texas attorney general and one of the longest-serving Republicans in the chamber. The description says only that he questioned Smith, the former special counsel, during a Senate hearing. The "perfect response" is the channel's own billing.
The hearing has been feeding the channel for days. As we reported here, Katie Britt's exchange with Smith filled one comment section, and a single sentence from Smith about the law carried an earlier clip past 100,000 views. Cornyn's turn is the newest piece of the same afternoon.
The comments came in roughly twelve times faster than on a usual first day. Judging by them, Cornyn's questions went back to how the investigations began. Viewers keep returning to the name Merrick Garland, to the timing of Donald Trump's announcement after the 2022 midterms that he would run again, and to a moment about a minute and a half in. Many others simply write a line of respect for Smith.
It was not the channel's only busy upload. A clip of Rep. Maxwell Frost questioning a Republican-invited witness at a hearing on veteran homelessness, about proposals to arrest homeless people, also ran far ahead of the channel's usual first day. The channel's about text promises "key moments" from the heart of government. This week, most of those moments have belonged to one witness.
