Ohio's archery opener, a backyard deer and a clean skinning lesson

Scott's whitetail went from harvest to cooling carcass in under two hours, chapter by chapter, with the cape saved for a mount.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Six hours old and already near 29,000 views, the backyard deer-skinning lesson is the video The Bearded Butchers built their week around. The deer came from Scott's own hunt on Ohio's archery opening day, and the description says it was field dressed, skinned and hanging in the cool morning air less than two hours later.

The chapters read like a checklist for a first-time hunter: opening the hind legs without a saw, hanging the deer, something the brothers call the fist method, and how to skin around the shoulders when the cape is going to a taxidermist. The promise, in their words, is a carcass as clean as one done in a commercial facility. A short trailer for it went up the same day.

The week's third upload stayed closer to home, a quick look at the Timber Shed Culinary Center taking shape at Whitefeather Meats, the brothers' shop in Creston.

The deer video is moving fast, but an 18-day-old short of tomahawk steaks being cut is still drawing even more views a day, and it has passed two million. A pork ham trimming short from nine days ago follows the pair. Among the food channels nearest them in size, You Suck At Cooking is the one having the big stretch, at well over double its usual daily pace.
