Io has volcanoes, Europa hides an ocean, and Jupiter has rings: Spark's busiest new documentary revisits discoveries that turned distant points of light into complicated worlds.
"We've Spent $18 Billion Exploring The Outer Solar System: Here's Everything We Know" has drawn about 44,000 views, the largest audience among seven uploads this week. The episode, identified on screen as Beyond Our Earth: Beyond the Belts, follows the probes and the people who made those encounters possible. Astrophysicists Alan Duffy and Lisa Kewley join the explanations, with archival appearances from Carl Sagan and other mission figures.
There is engineering ingenuity behind the planetary scenery. A rare alignment offers Voyager a gravitational stepping-stone route between planets; Cassini's discoveries bring Enceladus's subsurface ocean into focus. The closing return to Voyager's Pale Blue Dot photograph gives all that outward travel a homeward glance. Viewers pick up on Earth's preciousness and the stories held in ancient impact craters; some also ask for clearer programme credits.
Space is supplying the strongest momentum, too. "The Far Side Of The Moon Is Much Weirder Than You Think" is currently adding views fastest, followed by "Modern Physics Has A Multiverse Problem". Closer to Earth, Captain Ross Armstrong's Algoma Equinox voyage remains active, while other new uploads take in an A400M helicopter transport, Happy Star's heavy-lift work and Hannah Fry dismantling an electric car.
Spark's subscriber total held at two million over the week, while the channel added roughly 780,000 views. Its current daily viewing is a little below its usual level. Among neighbouring documentary channels, Wonder had a somewhat larger viewing week and Journeyman Pictures a quieter one, while Spark's latest slate stretched from cargo calculations to the possibility of parallel worlds.
