"From the company that brought you #BENDGATE, #ANTENNAGATE," Sam Tucker announces, in the hushed register of a launch presenter, "and now, we bring you #HINGEGATE." The product is the iPhone Duo, and its headline feature is a crack along the fold.
SAMTIME is a parody channel. Tucker plays the Apple executive, and the description notes that he does not represent the company. "The iPhone Duo Situation is Getting Bad" has drawn around 857,000 views since yesterday. That puts it among the most watched new videos of the edition, and the channel's daily views are running at roughly three times their usual pace.
Under the corporate patter sits a compact news roundup. Tucker shows posts from Reddit and X of screens split vertically and horizontally along the hinge, then recalls Samsung's troubled first Galaxy Fold. Using teardown footage, he suggests that something inside the hinge is pinching the panel or trapping debris behind it. For balance, he includes Tim Pan's stress test, in which a Duo survives 10,000 folds with a visible crease. He also cites Jiemian News reports of low hinge yields at Foxconn.
The price graphic is pointed. A Duo screen replacement is listed at $999, against well under $600 for Google's and Samsung's foldables, though Tucker notes reports of Apple Stores replacing broken phones. His on-screen caption describes him as someone who "Folds it right."
The video continues a run of Duo coverage on the channel, after the sell-out and a comparison with Microsoft's Surface Duo. Comments arrived at about three and a half times the usual first-day rate, many echoing Apple's old Antennagate advice about holding the phone correctly. Tucker closes with a promise: a real retail iPhone Duo is arriving, and he plans to unbox it.
