Meet the Dublin Marathon national title winners | #RTENews
Judith Storm had encouragement from her coach, but winning still came as a surprise. Asked about her Dublin Marathon performance, the Derry runner laughs: "No, I never in a million years thought I would win it."
In the post-race interviews from Ireland's Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) News, Storm explains what helped her commit: "But my coach kept saying you've as good a chance as any, and at the end, I just went for it."
Storm won the women's Irish national title in 2:35:46. Hugh Armstrong, from Mayo, took the men's national title in 2:14:51, crossing the finish line draped in an Irish flag.
These were the national honors, distinct from the overall race victories, which went to Ethiopian athletes Abay Alemu Lesa and Zenebu Fikdau Jebesa.
For Armstrong, the support had a familiar county identity. He recalls seeing plenty of Mayo flags along the route, with his family there too. "Great to get the win and the Irish title," he says.
An annual marathon in Dublin, Ireland, held since 1980. The race takes place on the last Sunday in October.
