Elicottero militare italiano caduto in Bosnia, 4 morti e 11 feriti: la ricostruzione
Three soldiers died at the crash site and a fourth died in hospital after surgery when an Italian military helicopter came down during training in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to RaiNews, the news service of Italy's public broadcaster RAI.
The report places the crash near the village of Gorice in Brčko District. It identifies the aircraft as a CH-47 serving with the European Union's EUFOR Althea peacekeeping mission and describes a possible technical malfunction at takeoff. That account does not establish the cause of the crash.
Footage shows the destroyed helicopter lying in fields. The report says civilian infrastructure was not damaged and that rescuers took the injured to hospital. A military spokesperson speaking by telephone says fifteen soldiers were aboard and confirms that the crash occurred during a training activity.
EUFOR Althea oversees the military implementation of the Dayton peace agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It took over from NATO's SFOR mission in 2004.
According to the report, the mission confirmed the deaths but said the soldiers' names would be released only after their families had been notified.
