Norway needs a king. In the teaser for Bloodaxe, two men say they are the answer. A red-bearded Erik walks through a crowd and promises, "And I will be king of Norway." A long-haired rival in gold-trimmed armor arrives by boat and counters, "I was born to be the king of this country." Brief flashbacks show the two as boys before the armies form up in fog.
The series description gives the history behind it. The year is 927 AD, and the ailing Harald Fairhair must choose an heir. Erik, sworn to the old pagan gods, faces his younger brother Haakon, who was raised in Wessex at the court of King Athelstan and comes home with an English fleet. Erik's wife Gunnhild offers diplomacy, and her father, Denmark's King Gorm, watches for an opening. The description also says that the men who would crown Haakon will ask him to give up his Christian faith first.
The man behind it explains much of the interest. Hirst created Vikings, and the teaser puts that credit on screen. The teaser passed 450,000 views in its first ten hours, and its comment section grew far faster than usual. Many comments simply welcome Hirst back. Some viewers think they recognize armor from his earlier series, while others ask for chain mail and more authentic Norse kit.
On the same channel, "Rope," a new single from Helluva Boss, also had a strong first day: demon assassins in the same week as Norse kings.

The numbers
A short teaser on a channel this big usually starts far more slowly, and Bloodaxe's comment section moved even faster than its views.
