Amy Klobuchar Shares John McCain’s Powerful Advice
Scott Galloway asks for names. Which Republican senators has Amy Klobuchar enjoyed working with, and which does she consider good lawmakers?
Her answer in Pivot's live Minneapolis interview starts with farm bill colleagues, then becomes something more personal: the guidance John McCain left her during their last visit.
The Short, "Amy Klobuchar Shares John McCain's Powerful Advice", drew an estimated 62,000 views in its first day, more than six times the channel's usual opening for that format. It comes from Kara Swisher and Galloway's post-election conversation with Minnesota's governor-elect, recorded at the State Theatre.
Klobuchar names senators Hoeven, Cramer, Rounds and Boozman before recalling how much she learned traveling abroad with McCain. She describes visiting him and his wife, Cindy, at their ranch toward the end of his life. There, he pointed her to a passage in one of his books.
"Always remember this," Klobuchar recalls him saying, before repeating the line: "There's nothing in life more liberating than fighting for a cause larger than yourself."
Galloway's question invites an assessment of colleagues across the aisle. Klobuchar answers that, but also offers a specific memory of what one of those friendships taught her.
