Pidgin Doll restores the bubble skirt born from a sewing mistake
Joshua David McKenney revisits his first doll design and the sewing lessons Miss Tina gave him as a child.

The story of the bubble skirt ⚪️ #pidgindoll #dolls #childhoodmemories #artdoll #doll #art
Joshua David McKenney finds an unexpected connection to his Premiere collection in a doll recovered from his mother's attic. The hair is missing, the skirt needs restitching, and there are nails in its ears. He has some repairs to make.
Pidgin Doll's only upload of the week, "The story of the bubble skirt ⚪️ #pidgindoll #dolls #childhoodmemories #artdoll #doll #art", has reached roughly 433,000 views. It begins with a multicolored-pencil drawing and a memory: at ten, McKenney bought an undressed doll for his mother, then learned to sew its outfit with her friend Miss Tina.
"And unlike most adults, Miss Tina didn't bat an eye that I loved dolls or fashion," he says. The distinctive bubble skirt came from accidentally sewing it inside out. What prompted panic then became a design worth returning to.
The restoration is pleasingly practical: out come the nails, the hem gets repaired, and a honey-blonde wig is trimmed and curled with rollers. Beside the Pidgin dolls he designed with Atomic Lab Toys, that early creation makes the family resemblance visible. Viewers are discussing their own childhood sewing lessons, the return of his rainbow pencil and the care he takes not to ridicule his younger self.
The bubble-skirt story is also the channel's busiest upload right now, with the fashion-doll drawing tutorial and the "no-makeup" doll look supplying additional momentum. Across the week, Pidgin Doll gained about 10,000 subscribers, although daily viewing is running below its usual level. Its weekly viewing sits above nearby craft channels naztazia and BRIKLE, while Printsculptors is having a much larger week.
For McKenney, the most telling comparison is on his own worktable: an early sewing accident beside the collection that echoes it.

I love it so much when you revisit your childhood art with the adult clarity you have today, and you never ridicule your kid self either. You empathise with him. It's beautiful.
@nina.k9See it on YouTubeIt's so strange to me that Ive never liked a bubble skirt on a real person but every time I see them on dolls or in art I think they're gorgeous. I wonder what that is 🤔
Also I love the fabrics and lace you used for the original doll, they remind me so much of the fabrics and laces I chose for projects when my grandma was teaching me to sew as a kid.@brencislloyd9517See it on YouTubeRespect to younger you for hand sewing a whole doll’s dress… as someone who hand sewed part of a cosplay, it’s super hard. Beautiful art 💕
