Owen Jones had a book to launch, and his channel spent the week circling it. The descriptions announce the new book, and on Wednesday he went live to take questions under its title, The Fall of the West, asking who is really to blame.
Around the launch, the usual run of argument kept coming. A week ago his conversation with Gideon Levy, the Haaretz columnist, about an Israeli panic over a Gaza film had the fastest start on the channel, as we reported here. It has since gone well past a third of a million views and is still drawing a steady crowd. Labour supplied the next two subjects: a video on the party's Gaza U-turn, framed around the words "You Were Right," and his own trip to conference, which by his account "descended into madness." A video titled "A 94 year old TERRORIST?" went up the same day as the live stream.
The youngest upload is the loudest. "Douglas Murray's HUMILIATING Record Exposed" turns his attention to the conservative author of The Strange Death of Europe, and in under a day it is gathering views far faster than anything else he posted this week.
The channel as a whole ran a little above its usual pace, though subscribers barely moved. Among political commentators of a similar size, Katie Phang and Pondering Politics had the big weeks, while Owen Jones sat near Tennessee Brando and Avi Yemini, each adding well over a million views.
