Video taking off 12x its usual first day

Referee Adrian Hill suspended over contact with the Vikings' Eric Wilson

A second clip, on official Jeff Seeman's two-game suspension after an exchange with Trey McBride, ran nearly as far ahead on the same Monday.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 62,966 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (5,285).

Two officials, two suspensions. NFL on CBS posted both on Monday, and they became the channel's two busiest new uploads of the day.

The first, "NFL suspending referee Adrian Hill for unprofessional conduct toward Vikings' Eric Wilson," passed 29,000 views in its first seven hours. A new short here usually ends its whole first day near 5,000. The second covers Jeff Seeman, suspended for two games over an interaction with Trey McBride, the Arizona Cardinals tight end, and it moved at almost the same pace. A follow-up with Mike LaFleur's reaction to the Seeman decision drew far fewer viewers.

The Hill clip also pulled people into the comments. About 40 had arrived within seven hours, where a short on this channel usually collects fewer than ten in a full day. Much of the talk is about officials being held to account at all, and several viewers wish the NBA did the same. One Vikings fan describes the moment as a player being pushed into the referee and says both sides later shrugged it off. Someone else just wants to know the name of the song the scene calls to mind.

A third Hill also had a good day on the channel: a postgame short that asks whether Tyreek Hill could return to the Chiefs drew far more viewers than a typical upload, though it stayed behind the two officiating stories.
