Antonio Brown's masked exit from a Miami court runs twenty times NBC 6's usual start
A plea deal was expected at the Miami-Dade hearing and did not happen, and the short report has drawn far more than anything else the station posted around it.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 133,210 views a day, 20 times a normal first day on this channel (6,840).
Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown wears face covering to leave court
A new report on NBC 6 South Florida usually draws something like 7,000 views on its first day. The station's short video of Antonio Brown leaving a Miami-Dade courtroom with his face covered passed 97,000 in thirteen hours.
Brown, the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, arrived expecting his case to be closed, according to the station's description. He was expected to take a plea deal over the accusation that he shot at a man at a celebrity boxing match the week before. The presiding judge had other plans, the description says, and no plea was entered. On the way out, Brown appears to put on a face covering for the walk down the courthouse halls. That brief walk is the image the video is built around, and it is also what much of the comment section is about.
The station's other reports from the same two days show how unusual this is. Surveillance video of a deadly gun battle in Liberty City, a dashcam chase that topped 115 mph and Ken Griffin's $3 billion gift for a Carnegie Mellon campus in Miami each sit in the hundreds or low thousands. A courthouse hallway is ordinary territory for a local newsroom. Perhaps it was the name of a former NFL star that carried this report so far beyond South Florida.

The numbers
One short courthouse report did in half a day what this station's videos rarely do in a week.
