Matthew McConaughey makes the opening case for political independence. Stephen A. Smith takes it from there, arguing that neither major party should treat voters' support as something it is owed.
The special edition of Straight Shooter drew more than 2,300 comments in its first day, roughly six times the channel's usual level. Its views were ordinary for the channel; the unusually busy discussion centers on party loyalty, independent voting and what accountability should mean.
Smith backs McConaughey's argument that independent votes are not wasted, then plays Hillary Clinton's criticism of the actor's position. He rejects the idea that opposing Donald Trump requires accepting Democratic candidates without question. "I don't like one-party dominion," Smith says, making checks and balances central to his argument.
Mark Cuban's criticism of both parties supplies another point of agreement. Smith also brings in earlier interview footage with Joe Manchin and Heather Manchin, who describe the parties as clubs that shut independent voices out.
The warning promised by the title arrives later. Smith predicts Democrats will win the House while Republicans retain the Senate, then argues that another impeachment effort would help Republicans win the presidency in 2028. His case is that grocery bills, inflation and avoiding foreign conflicts matter more to everyday voters than another round of investigations.
He finishes that electoral argument with a specific prediction: Marco Rubio will become the Republican presidential nominee. Smith presents Rubio's intelligence and polished delivery as qualities Democrats should take seriously.
