MotoGP's Australian Grand Prix was canceled because limited visibility prevented the medical helicopter from operating. The official channel's "Farewell Lap & Rider Parade | 2026 Australian GP" carries the announcement, the waiting in the garages and, eventually, a goodbye behind the safety car.
The broadcast drew nearly a million views before its first day was over, far beyond the channel's usual audience for regular videos. Its comment section was also several times busier than a typical first day, with viewers recalling races at the circuit and asking for another chance to see MotoGP there. One spectator remembers attending the Australian rounds in 1989 and 1990.
Trackside, Ducati's Davide Tardozzi puts the disappointment alongside the reason for stopping: "Ending up like that is not what we want. The weather is bad..." Safety, he explains, has to come first.
The farewell promised in the title arrives well into the broadcast. Riders pull on wet-weather gear, leave pit lane behind the safety car and circle the circuit, waving to spectators still standing in the rain.
Jack Miller's green-and-gold Australian tribute livery adds a home-country detail to the garage scenes. His farewell also gets a separate, unusually fast-starting Short, "Jack Miller's last lap around Phillip Island 🥹", whose description gives the occasion a distinctly Miller instruction: keep a wheel in the air, whichever one it happens to be.

Wife and I attended 1989 and 90 to watch 500s at their best wildest and trickiest with Wayne winning closely both years. The crowds were huge, the atmosphere dynamite and the racing sensational. Yet ANOTHER 'waypoint' gone....
