Why this story? The channel is adding 99,973 subscribers a day, 17 times a normal day (5,974).

Michael Jackson - The Celebration of The King of Pop's Birthday (8.29.26)

"Billie Jean," "Beat It" and "Smooth Criminal" sit near the top of Michael Jackson's video archive, decades after their original releases. The official channel carrying those short films has added about 100,000 subscribers in a day, far beyond its usual gain of a few thousand.

That brings it to 41.9 million subscribers, another step up from the milestone we reported here in October. This is a fresh jump for an archive whose best-known work long predates YouTube.

"Billie Jean" is the channel's most-watched regular upload. Its illuminated pavement and solitary dance moves offer a different kind of spectacle from the gang choreography of "Beat It" or the horror-film transformation in "Thriller." All three sit among the channel's most-watched videos.

The channel's latest listed upload is August's birthday celebration, rather than a new release accompanying this jump. Elsewhere, "Michael Jackson: The Station" offers a continuous stream of his short films, giving those elaborate productions a home beyond individual video pages.
