Michael Jackson's official channel added about 100,000 subscribers in a day, a sharp departure from its usual few thousand. The leap came without a fresh release: its most recent upload remains August's birthday celebration.

Perhaps Halloween's approach is part of the draw for the home of "Thriller." The song's short film, directed by John Landis, made its horror-movie transformation and zombie choreography as recognizable as the music. It gives this particular pop archive a seasonal connection, though it is not clear what prompted the subscriber jump.

"Thriller" is not the channel's most-watched upload, however. That distinction belongs to "Billie Jean," with "Beat It" and "Smooth Criminal" also among its enduring draws.

Alongside those familiar films, the channel added "Michael Jackson - Human Nature (Official Video)" in April. The same day brought "Michael Jackson: The Station," billed as a nonstop stream of his short films: a way to watch the catalog without choosing the next song.
