Scott Lang meets three Captain Americas in the Avengers: Doomsday teaser

Marvel's half-minute Short sets Doctor Doom against three teams, then lets John Walker and a borrowed hammer steal the scene.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 9,908,102 views a day, 199 times a normal first day on this channel (49,838).

Avengers: Doomsday | In Theaters December 18Avengers: Doomsday | In Theaters December 18

"Avengers: Doomsday | In Theaters December 18" runs barely half a minute, and its biggest laugh comes from a naming problem. On Marvel Entertainment's official channel, the Short passed ten million views a little over a day after it went up.

The threat is sketched quickly. A voice warns that "Doom will tear this world apart," Doctor Doom appears flanked by giant figures, and Wakandans shake hands with the Thing and the Fantastic Four as the screen promises that three teams will stand as one.

Then Paul Rudd's Scott Lang tries to greet Chris Evans' Steve Rogers and Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson at the same time, since both have carried the shield. Wyatt Russell's John Walker makes it worse: "I was also Cap. For a minute." Walker's short spell with the shield came in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so the line has a history behind it. Scott tries out "Captains America" and does not sound convinced.

The closing beat goes to Thor. Steve holds Mjolnir and asks, "This doesn't bother you, does it?" Chris Hemsworth's answer is flat: "You know it does." It calls back to Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Steve nudged the hammer at a party and Thor's smile slipped, and to Endgame, where Steve finally swung it.

That look from Thor is what the comment section keeps returning to. Many viewers read him as the one grown-up in a room of unruly teammates. Comments arrived roughly a hundred times faster than on the channel's usual Short.

The channel's own about text has been teasing the moment for a while: "This YouTube account will return in Avengers: Doomsday." In a single day, this teaser has already overtaken July's official Doomsday trailer, one of the channel's most watched Shorts.
