Zombie Outbreak

"I got a school bus for us. This is where we'll live our lives while we're on the run," JJ announces about a minute into Maizen's new Minecraft story, and he means it literally. Before the infected reach the garage, the bus has living quarters, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom.

The premise arrives fast. A newscaster in a blue suit warns that "an unknown virus is spreading around the world!" and is swarmed on air seconds later. JJ takes the broadcast's advice to live in a car or a bus. He and Mikey, in his green turtle skin, pull out of the garage just as the horde breaks through the door.

The road is where the trouble lives. JJ sets a schedule ("Let's switch drivers every 6 hours!"), and they roll past a burning village. Mikey's shortcut ends in a tunnel sealed with gravel, which JJ clears with TNT. Later Mikey dozes off at the wheel, and the bus ends up dangling from a broken bridge until an abandoned truck and a rope haul it back. A stop at a deserted mall turns up food, weapons and electronics, and JJ uses them to build a crop generator and mount turrets on the roof.

The episode has drawn about 1.3 million views since yesterday, and its comments came in around twice as fast as on the channel's usual first day. A good share of them are about that newscaster: viewers have decided he cannot die. Others come from people who say they grew up on JJ and Mikey, or who are coming back after a couple of years away.

It arrives a few days after Maizen filled a zoo with 31 horror mobs. This time the monsters stay outside, and the effort goes into making a bus feel like home.
