Samuel Sey had described ICE as a force for justice. Now the conservative blogger is in immigration custody, and The Logical Leftist is examining both that contrast and a dispute over why he is being held.
The commentary drew an estimated 41,000 views in its first day, more than eleven times the channel's usual start for regular videos. Its comment section was also nearly nine times busier than usual.
The host reports that Sey was arrested at Columbus airport on October 21 and booked into Butler County jail. But the video presents sharply different accounts of his immigration status, rather than establishing which is correct.
According to the Department of Homeland Security's statement to The Daily Beast, presented in the video, Sey overstayed a visa, has no pending application and accepted voluntary departure. A fundraiser organized by Babylon Bee editor Joel Berry instead describes him as a Canadian legal resident caught in a clerical paperwork problem. It continues to support ICE.
The host explicitly questions the government's account: "Here's the thing: I don't believe what DHS says, okay?" Later, he acknowledges that he does not know which explanation to believe.
Although the upload's title says Sey is getting deported, the situation described is detention pending removal, not a completed deportation. The host's closing political argument concerns the distinction conservative commentators draw between supporting broad immigration enforcement and seeking an exception for someone they know.
