JSL Review's iPhone Duo verdict: fun, but easy to skip

The week-later review finds uneven app layouts and a missing convenience behind the folding phone's appeal.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 61,870 views a day, 6.2 times a normal first day on this channel (9,996).

Opening the iPhone Duo was a source of delight in JSL Review's first impressions. Living with it has produced a more complicated verdict: the folding screen is fun, but the reviewer hasn't found a feature that makes it essential.

The Short, "iPhone Duo One Week Later - Brutal Truth!!", has drawn about 47,000 views in its first 14 hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full first-day audience for Shorts.

Its most everyday complaint comes before the phone is even unlocked. The reviewer misses Face ID and finds the side-button Touch ID noticeably slower. Once inside, some apps make good use of the extra space, while others appear in awkwardly narrow layouts.

There are positives, too. JSL Review praises the inner screen's nano-coating for reducing reflections and fingerprints while retaining vibrant visuals. The cameras also earn a solid assessment for photos and video, though the reviewer puts them below Apple's best.

That leads to a distinction between an interesting phone and a necessary purchase. "As fun as the Duo is, there's no silver bullet thing that only this phone could do," the reviewer says, recommending it more for enthusiasts than general buyers.

The comments pick up those practical trade-offs. Some viewers describe wanting a different phone design after years with the same shape; others would rather wait for another generation. Owners also disagree about whether the inner display sacrifices vibrancy and whether fingerprint unlocking feels like a step backward.

What viewers say

  • I went into an Apple Store to take a peek at the Duo. Surprisingly, it seemed heavy and clunky. I was expecting it to open easier too. Will look forward to Duo 2 or 3!

  • I love mine, but I do miss the Face ID a lot and the matte inner display 1000% knocks down vibrancy
  • Later on I can see myself getting a version 2 or 3!

  • i feel like nano texture on the inside screen is no problem at all. i have it on my MBP and it looks perfectly fine. sure, it does look a little odd from side angles even in the dark but whos really gonna watch anything looking at their phone from the side
  • I find it funny that people are complaining about TouchID. It's really not that slow. Yes, there is a step you have to do but it unlocks quickly in my experience. There are other things about the Duo that I find more objectionable than TouchID.
