Federal Police contacted Argentine authorities while trying to establish Flávio Bolsonaro's whereabouts, according to Brazil's Jovem Pan News. Reporter Beatriz Manfredini said there was no official record of the senator passing through Brazilian immigration, despite accounts reaching his allies that he had left the country.
The October 27 broadcast describes officers arriving at the Liberal Party's headquarters in Brasília after searching for Bolsonaro since early morning. The channel says they were investigating reports that he had departed without surrendering his passport as ordered by Brazil's Supreme Federal Court.
Bolsonaro, a senator representing Rio de Janeiro and a son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, had lost Sunday's presidential runoff. This report focuses on the effort to locate him rather than the political response to that defeat.
Reporting live from São Paulo, Manfredini said sources close to the senator had received word of a possible route through Argentina and onward to the United States. She did not present that itinerary as an officially confirmed journey.
According to Manfredini, allies initially strongly denied that Bolsonaro intended to flee Brazil. By the time of her report, however, most of the sources she contacted had been unable to speak with him. They were urging him to issue a statement or release a video explaining his situation.
Archive footage shows Bolsonaro speaking at a press conference surrounded by supporters. The broadcast ends with the reported contact with Argentine authorities, without establishing his location or presenting a response from him.
