HEW sends Fortnite logic into a fictional military draft

Hew Moran's gaming sketches form the backdrop to a sharp jump in channel views, though no single upload explains the rise.

When Fortnite kids get drafted to war...

A diamond sword is useful in Minecraft. Bringing one to a gunfight is the joke behind one of HEW's recent sketches, as Hew Moran takes gaming habits somewhere they decidedly don't belong.

The channel added about 277,000 views in a day, compared with its usual few thousand. That's a striking change for a channel whose description is simply "Hew Moran Plays Fortnite," but the channel-wide jump cannot be pinned on any one of its recent uploads.

Those uploads have a clear comic thread: players treating imaginary real-world emergencies as if familiar game mechanics still apply. These are staged gaming sketches, not accounts of an actual conflict or draft. "Minecraft Players in WW3..." supplies the diamond-sword mismatch, while "When Gamers Get Drafted to WW3…" builds its premise around the gaming callout that an opponent is one shot away from defeat.

The latest upload, "When Fortnite kids get drafted to war...", carries that idea back to Fortnite. Its description imagines taking the game's rapid building technique, known as cranking 90s, onto a battlefield.
