Obama's case for disagreeing with El-Sayed on Guardian News
The Detroit rally clip pairs pointed jokes with an argument that shared goals matter more than agreement on every policy.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Obama mocks Trump and Hegseth while rallying for El-Sayed: 'Not serious people'
The jokes travelled furthest. But Guardian News' most-watched upload of the week also contains a less combative argument: Barack Obama explaining why he supports Abdul El-Sayed despite their policy differences.
The Detroit rally highlights have reached nearly 1.5 million views. Obama begins with Trump's White House renovations and gold décor, then turns to defence secretary Pete Hegseth. Later, he addresses criticism that El-Sayed disagreed with decisions made during his presidency. "We are not going to agree on every detail of every issue," he says, before distinguishing differences over methods from differences over fundamental goals. Access to healthcare is among the values he says they share.
Across sixteen uploads, the channel ranged well beyond that campaign stage. South America correspondent Tiago Rogero examined Flávio Bolsonaro's departure for the US after Brazil's election defeat, while a live spacewalk broadcast followed Anil Menon and Joshua Kutryk installing a roll-out solar array outside the International Space Station.
The Obama clip remains the channel's busiest upload right now. Footage of riot police outside Poland's constitutional court and Palestinian reactions to Israel's election are also drawing viewers.
Guardian News added about 10,000 subscribers over the week, although daily viewing is currently below half its usual pace. Its weekly views were close to those of Channel 4 News and FRANCE 24 English. For this channel, the week's biggest draw was a campaign speech that made room for both ridicule and a defence of political disagreement.
