Trump on Republican candidates: "I thought they'd do better."
Fox Business pairs his admission of surprise with a state-by-state account of Democratic gains and Republican victories in Florida.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 185,773 views a day, 18 times a normal first day on this channel (10,136).
'BIT SURPRISED': Trump BREAKS silence...
Fox Business anchor Lauren Simonetti works through the Democratic gains before Donald Trump's voice arrives by phone, nearly two minutes into the report. By then, the losses extend from Michigan and Texas to Kansas, and Democrats have secured both chambers of Congress.
"I'm a little bit surprised. I thought they'd do better," Trump says. He also points to Republican successes: "Don't forget we had a lot of candidates that did win also."
The Short drew roughly 135,000 views in its first 13 hours, an unusually fast start for the channel's short-form reports. Its comment count had already exceeded twenty times the channel's usual full first day.
Simonetti gives Texas particular attention: James Talarico wins the Senate contest, while Gina Hinojosa defeats incumbent Greg Abbott for governor. The report closes with a different picture in Florida, where Republicans Ashley Moody and Byron Donalds win the Senate and governor's races.
That Florida exception also runs through Fox Business's other widely watched election uploads. A separate Ron DeSantis interview discusses Republican victories there and a property-tax overhaul, while a Donalds victory-speech clip carries his declaration, "WE ARE STILL RED." Alongside Trump's surprise, the channel is giving viewers the Republican officials' accounts of where their party held on.
