- 17:28The finished cars appear together for the paint comparison.
Jeremiah Burton and Zach Jobe are sanding body panels while Jimmy Oakes and Justin Freeman find time for a pier-side arcade. Donut's paint-job comparison makes the difference between paying for labor and doing it yourself unusually tangible.
In "$2,500 vs $10,000 Paint Jobs | HiLow", the Low Team strips and prepares its Silvia before handing it over to Maaco. The Hi Team visits Strasse Sport Auto Body, where Ivan explains the preparation and multiple coats behind the professional job. "If you guys know anything about body work, it's all in the prep," Jeremiah says. The episode is sponsored by Allstate; Zach separately makes clear that Maaco isn't sponsoring it.
The comparison has reached about 627,000 views, making it the most watched of Donut's two uploads this week. Its companion, "$2,000 vs $15,000 paint job", gives the paint theme a second outing. Both are among the channel's most active videos, alongside the preceding body-kit episode, which compared a Vertex kit with repairs to Low Car's existing panels.
Across the channel, daily viewing is running at more than four times its usual pace, although subscribers were unchanged over the week. In the motoring neighborhood, carwow is also drawing substantially more daily views than usual, while Top Gear is close to its customary rhythm.
The paint episode's comments get specific: viewers scrutinize the expensive finish's orange-peel texture, consider what a track-wall encounter would do to either investment, and single out Low Car's wheel-and-color combination. For all the attention paid to the bill, the blue car's appearance has become a talking point of its own.
