Brian Mello makes the hybrid case with Audi's RS5

Audi RS5 Sales EXPLODE!Audi RS5 Sales EXPLODE!

Brian Mello's RS5 update has picked up roughly 21,000 views in a day, more than eight times its usual daily pace, a fortnight after it was posted. At the center is a question performance-car buyers keep returning to: does adding a plug make a fast car less desirable?

Mello argues that Audi's order book offers an answer. He reports that European orders nearly doubled initial expectations and that the entire year's production run sold out, describing it as Audi's most successful RS launch.

The car he outlines combines a twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor for 630 horsepower. Mello presents it as Audi Sport's first high-performance plug-in hybrid, replacing both the old RS5 coupe and the RS4 Avant wagon. His conclusion is straightforward: buyers aren't necessarily rejecting hybrid performance cars.

The comments bring the discussion back to the bodywork. Viewers single out the exterior design, with more specific reservations about the taillights, interior and gauge cluster. Others focus on the American availability question, particularly the Avant.

That is where Mello leaves an important distinction. Citing Carscoops, he says the wagon isn't coming to the US, while the sedan could arrive later. Some commenters suggest otherwise, but that remains their account, not an announced American wagon launch.
