Dave2D's MacBook Pro surprise is how little it weighs
His only upload of the week has passed a million views, with a lighter chassis and an illuminated Apple logo joining the touchscreen redesign.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 0:00Lee identifies reduced weight, rather than the touchscreen, as the redesign's standout change for him.
- 0:54The chassis has revised cooling vents, thinner dimensions and recessed rubber feet.
- 1:45The illuminated Apple logo returns alongside an upgraded tandem OLED display.
- 3:05Touch input feels slower for video editing, though Lee sees uses for multi-touch creative work.
- 4:41He examines fingerprint buildup on glossy and nano-texture finishes before assessing arm fatigue and interface changes.
- 6:30M5 Pro and M5 Max remain the chip options, with higher launch prices.
Touchscreen or not, Dave Lee has another reason to notice the redesigned MacBook Pro: the weight. At the launch event, he picks out the lighter hardware as the change that matters most to him, before getting into the more conspicuous OLED display.
That gives "The NEW MacBook Pro - First Impressions" a useful distinction from a simple touchscreen demonstration. Lee examines thinner dimensions, recessed rubber feet and revised cooling vents, suggesting the exhaust routing may help keep hot air away from the screen. The illuminated Apple logo also returns, a detail several commenters say interests them more than touch input.
The week's sole upload has reached roughly 1.2 million views. It's also the channel's most active video right now by a substantial margin, with the earlier iPhone Duo review and "The Laptop for 71% of People," about Googlebook laptops, continuing to draw smaller daily audiences.
Across Dave2D, daily views are running at nearly four times their usual level, although the subscriber count was unchanged over the week. In the surrounding gadget-review group, The Verge is also seeing elevated daily viewing, while Techquickie is quieter than usual.
The MacBook's new surface has given viewers something less glamorous to discuss, too: fingerprints. Lee checks both glossy and nano-texture finishes, and the comments split between people who dislike touching laptop screens and those who see occasional taps as a useful convenience. A lighter bag is the straightforward benefit; whether to put a finger on the display is the more personal choice.

More excited about the return of the glowing logo than a touchscreen.
@johnb528See it on YouTubetouch screen is not a needed feature ... I've had multi-touch on Windows laptops for past 10y and have not used it besides the first 5mins of playing with the device ... I'm all for a new design, size and weight, OLED screen, but scrap the touch-screen and shave the price off
@perth-quokkaSee it on YouTubeThank you Dave for showing the fingerprint situation. No other creator did that. You the real man 👍

Tell them to make the trackpad a precision pen tablet that works with apple pencil pro already.
@DSDSDS1235See it on YouTubeiPads get lots of fingerprints. It’s never a problem. This Mac isn’t for everyone. But there are quite a few things that having a touch display can be highly useful. iOS and iPadOS app development for example will be incredible.
@tiagomaqzSee it on YouTubeAlways love Dave's ethical video length, no unnecessary fillers to lengthen them
