"It's like a very simple Halloween costume," the woman tells Colby Martel. That doesn't stop him from trying Shrek, a witch, a skeleton and a ghost before finding a more useful line of questioning.

His costume-guessing Short reached roughly 1.2 million views in eight hours, already several times his usual full-day audience for Shorts. For a creator whose guessing games often revolve around strangers' names, the seasonal switch has supplied a particularly roundabout puzzle.

Martel holds the microphone in a blue-and-purple horned onesie, while his interviewee wears a brown jacket and jeans. He isn't identifying a costume she's wearing: he has to work it out from her answers.

Questions about jobs, sports and healthcare get him nowhere. She explains that her choice is a female version of a traditionally male archetype. Eventually, they turn to spelling. An opening P still leaves room for uncertainty; six letters and P-I finally get him to pirate.

The comments offer a parallel guessing game. Some viewers say they were stuck on zombie, cowgirl or police officer; another mentally supplied peach after the P clue. Others are comparing pirate costume plans of their own.
