Stromedy adds 100,000 subscribers amid its corn-maze horror run

Stromedy's cast of sinister storybook visitors has company: roughly 100,000 new subscribers in a day. That brings the channel to about 14.4 million subscribers, a sharp change from its usual daily gains in the hundreds.

The jump comes during Kyle Godfrey's corn-maze run, with a menacing Cat in the Hat at its center. The main adventure was followed by "He hides in the corn maze at night…" and "Found him hiding in a Corn Maze!" These are staged thrillers, not footage of a real threat: Godfrey creates and plays Stromedy, and the channel describes its productions as filmed on controlled sets.

Halloween is close, and the channel has plenty to match the occasion. But the subscriber surge has not come with an equivalent lift in viewing: daily views across the channel are below their usual pace. It isn't clear what prompted the sudden increase in subscribers.

The corn maze is a new setting for an established Stromedy idea: take something familiar and make it threatening. The channel's most-watched regular upload still features a school bus filled with clowns, an adventure posted in 2020.
