CNBC International Live puts Britain's rate rise beside AI jitters
Steve Sedgwick explains the Bank of England's move to 4%, while the channel's market sell-off bulletin draws its largest new-upload audience.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Why the Bank of England hiked interest rates for the first time in more than three years
Interest rates or AI: which story is keeping CNBC International Live viewers watching? The week's biggest new upload was the market sell-off bulletin, but Steve Sedgwick's Bank of England explainer has the strongest daily momentum among the channel's videos.
Sedgwick breaks down a quarter-point increase to 4%, presented in "Why the Bank of England hiked interest rates for the first time in more than three years". It has reached roughly 16,000 views. That makes a distinctly British policy decision a substantial part of a week otherwise dominated by global market nerves.
"AI meltdown sends markets reeling" attracted about 42,000 views on its first day. Karen Tso traces the losses through cloud infrastructure companies, chipmakers and the biggest technology names before her co-anchor follows the selling into Asia. In the comments, viewers connect the financial story to everyday concerns: graphics-card and memory prices, employment and the environmental impact of data centres.
Across its fifteen uploads, the channel also made room for sharply different Iran assessments from Brookings' Robert Kagan and Eurasia Group's Clayton Allen. Its older Ray Dalio interview continues attracting views, with a particularly relevant distinction: a promising technology is not necessarily a good investment.
Subscribers were unchanged over the week, just short of half a million. Daily views are currently around a third of their usual level, although the channel gained more weekly views than most of its nearby business-channel peers. For CNBC International Live, the Bank of England explainer is the upload carrying the most momentum now.
