Mullet delivers the speed. Cheesecake handles the transportation, until it needs help, too.
Cleetus McFarland's opening-day World Cup Finals vlog follows the crew from engine checks to a personal-best qualifying pass: Mullet covers the drag strip in 6.309 seconds. Nearly 900,000 views since yesterday have gathered around a day that combines a genuine racing achievement with a very undignified trip through the pits.
The preparations give each car its turn. Engine builder Pete Harrell talks tuning with Cleetus, Mullet gets its launch-control check, and Jackstand Jimmy does the same in McFlurry. Vic also wins a grudge race before the crew brings out its unlikely support vehicle.
Cheesecake, the rotary Datsun whose testing mishap we covered as we reported here, has a different assignment: pushing Mullet toward the staging lanes. The revving little car draws a crowd while doing a job usually reserved for something rather less theatrical.
Then Mullet makes the run promised by the title. Cleetus celebrates the time, although an on-screen note flags that only one parachute deployed.
Rain cuts the day short, and Cheesecake runs out of fuel while towing Mullet. Viewers keep returning to the absurdity of the support car needing support itself. Others pick out a quieter visual detail: Sam's upside-down smiling reflection.
The video opens with a sponsored app segment. After that, the crew's most memorable transportation problem isn't going fast enough. It's keeping the push car moving.
