Chow follows re-election with Ford texts and council calls
CityNews' Alan Carter says Toronto's incoming council is aligned with the mayor's priorities, but provincial relations could prove more complicated.

Chow returns to city hall after re-election win
"The Premier and I had text messages this morning," Olivia Chow tells reporters outside Toronto City Hall. Re-elected and back at work, the mayor says she has also spoken with more than half of the city's councillors.
CityNews' report, "Chow returns to city hall after re-election win," moves quickly from the result to what it could mean for governing Toronto. Reporter Alan Carter describes a broader mandate for Chow, who won a majority of the vote and expanded her support since the previous election.
When anchor Cynthia Mulligan asks about the council she will work with, Carter points to progressive candidates winning open seats and defeating incumbents. Some, he reports, were handpicked by Chow. His assessment is that the incoming council will be aligned with her priorities.
The clip drew about 23,000 views in six hours, an unusually fast start for CityNews' Shorts. The station's full municipal election broadcast also attracted a much larger first-day audience than its usual longer uploads.
Carter's qualification comes at the provincial level: he says opposition to Toronto's mayor often comes from the premier's office rather than the council chamber. Chow, meanwhile, describes her conversations with councillors as an early signal that they want to work together for residents.
Canadian politician who has served as Toronto’s mayor since 2023. She previously represented Trinity—Spadina in Parliament for the New Democratic Party.
