Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 3:41Rea tests raw and par-boiled pasta tubes stuffed with mashed potatoes; neither version solves the heavy texture.
- 12:42Dot Cake combines yellow box cake, frosting and rainbow sprinkles in individual ramekins.
- 19:19Dumpling lasagna layers chicken filling and wrappers, with a water bath and steam oven used to cook it.
- 27:23Baked orzo with sausage and Boursin earns one of the episode's strongest verdicts.
- 30:02Rea makes his own version of Pringles mashed potatoes by pulsing and boiling the chips with milk.
Deep-frying pasta and filling it with mashed potatoes sounds like a substantial commitment to starch. Andrew Rea tries it two ways in "I Tested Viral TikTok Recipes": first with raw pasta, then with par-boiled tubes. The second attempt improves his verdict by exactly one-hundredth of a point.
That tiny concession is a good introduction to Binging with Babish's only new upload of the week. Rather than simply watching improbable food combinations, Rea makes them, adjusts them and eats the results. Bayashi's potato-filled pasta proves heavy going, but Uma Cooks' dumpling lasagna gives him more to work with. He layers chicken filling, gelatinized stock and wrappers, cooks the dish in a water bath and finishes it in a steam oven. It earns a considerably more comfortable verdict.
The episode includes sponsored segments for Squarespace. Among the viewers' suggestions is a useful next step for this format: turn the less workable viral recipes into proper dishes. Others offer their own cooking notes, including using rice pasta for fried snacks and borrowing Babish's parchment-paper tricks.
The new test has passed 1.7 million views and is drawing far more daily viewing than any other upload in the channel's current momentum selection. "I Tried the Best (and WORST) Instant Pot Recipes" remains active behind it, followed by "10 Levels of Nachos | With Babish."
Across the channel, daily viewing is slightly below its usual pace, while the subscriber total is unchanged for the week. Nearby in the food world, mrnigelng is seeing a much stronger-than-usual daily audience and adding subscribers. For Babish, the fresh activity centers on a kitchen willing to give even potato-filled fried pasta a second attempt.

@kitasmomSee it on YouTubeJust an fyi, Fried pasta can be amazing, but it works much better with rice pasta than wheat IME, also you want to par boil it a tiny bit more. I use it for trail mix.
@WyrdrockSee it on YouTubeI learned this trick from this babish guy about crumpling up parchment paper and spreading it under your cakes, so you can just pull it right out.
