Police offer $250,000 international reward on gangland boss Anthony Pele | 9 News Australia
An international reward is intended to put fresh pressure on fugitive Anthony Pele, whom police allege heads the Coconut Cartel. Australian broadcaster 9 News Australia reports that New South Wales police are offering A$250,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Senior Crime Editor Emma Partridge reports that Pele left Australia in 2023 and is believed to be in Vietnam after travelling internationally. He is the subject of an Interpol red notice, according to the report.
Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree describes the offences police are pursuing: "We are talking about murder, conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to kidnap, and shoot with intent to murder." The report links the investigation to alleged underworld attacks, including a shooting in the Sydney suburb of Greenacre in 2023 in which Ahmed Al Azzam was killed and another man was paralysed. It also describes an alleged drone-assisted attempt to kill rapper Ali Younes.
Greentree says the reward could make Pele uncertain about whom he can trust. His direct message to the fugitive is that neither time nor distance will end the pursuit: "And to Anthony Pele, my message is really simple: we will not stop."
